Catch up with what's happening with DR on and off the track!

Shennington Club Meeting - February

An encouraging weekend for team DR as we had strong performances in junior TKM, junior Rotax Max and senior Rotax Max.

Despite the issue of having our race truck stolen we quickly regrouped and made our way to shennington. In dry practice on Saturday we found a good base line set up and we had front running times in all three categories.

This turned into a bit of a lottery as it snowed on Sunday!! However sprits where high and overall we had some good heat performances with a win in junior Rotax with fastest lap and a win in senior Rotax.

The final grit slots where Junior TKM start 6 Junior Rotax 7 and Senior Rotax 2. With the final over nine laps all we needed was a good start and given the performance of the chassis confidence was running high. Unfortunately things sometimines go wrong in Kart Racing!!

Both our junior drivers raced hard but both sadly missed a podium when each fully deserved his place in the top three. However the DR drive of the day was in senior Max. Lewis Salville 2nd place start all went wrong from the first lap but as I have said the recovery from dead last was excellent and he could have finished as high as sixth if he hadn’t bent an axel near the end of the race to record a DNF.

DR RACING KART LAUNCHES NEW SPORTTKM KART – FIRST RACE FIRST WIN

After a lot of winter testing at various tracks around the country DR Racing Kart UK launched their new Sporttkm Kart at last weekends Whilton Mill race meeting.

With a packed grid of 23 Junior TKM karts it was finally time to pitch ourselves against the best of British bands also had their 2010 spec karts ready to race.

It was clear from the first Saturday practice in very cold conditions that the inherent grip within the chassis combined with the new control tyres the DR Racing Kart chassis design and development parts gave us a clear advantage. It’s fair to say in the early sessions our advantage was up to 2 to 2.5 seconds a lap against the 2009 spec TKM karts!!

To our surprise as we approached race day the main competition was with the Ex-CIK karts and not the best of British or 2009 TKM karts.

Unfortunately the story of the race was not as controlled as our practice sessions with heat 1 our start position was 4 leading by lap 4 out by lap 5 with a snapped chain!!

Heat 2 start from 13, 4th by lap 2, black flagged (a harsh call) Heat 3 start from 11 works through the field to record our first heat win with a DR SPORTTKM

For the final we start 12 but we have laps on our side as the heats had been 7 the final would probably be 16. The brief to our team driver Ryan Green was get busy in the first two laps and pass drivers as they wait for the tyres to warm up.

By lap seven we were leading and now pulling away from the field in what turned out to be a clear demonstration of outstanding chassis control with a measured driver performance. Well done to all of the DR Racing Kart team and Richard Green, Ryan’s farther.

The DR Racing Kart SPORTTKM chassis used at the weekend is an interim spec and we are now taking orders for the full production model.

Shennington 2009

Shennington Club Weekend Shennington Club Weekend

Shennington Club Weekend experienced the first weekend of real winter weather.  With extreme wind conditions and heavy down poors, the DR remained consistent and pulled out the fastest lap of the final.

Despite the wintery weather the heating kept everyone warm and the atmosphere was good in the awning with spirits high.  Challenging conditions did not put our drivers off and in the first heat Jack achieved a 7th from 19th, and unfortunately Lewis got wrong black flagged because of a case of mistaken identity.  Because of this incident Lewis needed a strong finish in the second heat and proved his worth with a win, followed closely by his team mate Jack Mayle in second, achieving DR's first 1 - 2!

In the final the rain was lurking and the two drivers coped well, despite an unlucky start for Jack having to take to the emergency slip road put him back to 14th yet within the first lap he was up to 9th and then continued to work through the pack up to 4th where the 3rd place driver was defending his position and on the last corner of the last lap Jack went for a move round the outside which paid off, but due to wet conidtions was pushed by the now 4th place driver and he ended up finishing 5th as they crossed the line.

Lewis started 20th and had a brilliant first lap moving up 7 positions.  He continued to overtake drivers nearly every lap with some excellent overtaking moves but as the race stretched out with insufficent laps to go it was hard for Lewis to make any further headway and finished a commendable 9th.
